ArtVenue has moved offices to Brickbottom Lofts in Somerville, and we couldn’t be happier! While it was hard leaving the exciting entrepreneurial bubble of MassChallenge, we are feeling right at home in this warm and welcoming community of artists, small business owners, and residents. Officially known as the Brickbottom Artist Building, the lofts were established in 1988 after local artists purchased the building from the A&P Supermarket company. Today it is home to one of the countries largest arts complexes, and we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of it. Be on the lookout for upcoming events at Brickbottom!
Fifteen fantastically unique and artistically rendered plastic resin skulls were all in a row and on full display at ‘The Ars Moriendi Project’ Art Reception, which was curated by ArtVenue. Some skulls were transformed into fossils of deep sea creatures and some shimmered with gleamed with beautiful metallic paint. There were skulls with menacing glowing eyes, ones that grew sky-high, and others with tediously hand-painted designs. It was rewarding seeing people leaning in close, getting level with the artwork and taking time to look at each piece. Artists happily shared their inspirations and indulged in compliments and admiration for their work – it was certain each skull was someone’s favorite. The night was an immense success!
Here are the artists who participated in the event and designed extraordinary skulls:

Happy art’ing, friends!
“The Ars Moriendi, or ‘art of dying,’ is a body of Christian literature that provided practical guidance for the dying and those attending them. These manuals informed the dying about what to expect, and prescribed prayers, actions, and attitudes that would lead to a “good death” and salvation.”[1]
ArtVenue and Dustri.al present ‘The Ars Moriendi Project‘ Art Reception at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, MA. The are over a dozen plastic resin skulls that have been at the mercy of very talented local artists, each of whom was given full artistic freedom to do with theirs anything they wanted. Happy reception and art’ing, friends!
The ‘Allston Rock City Art Tour‘ was an immense success! There were 18 venues, more than 30 artists and nearly 200 pieces of artwork involved (and not harmed) in the making of the tour. Even though it was raining during pre-event set up, the sun broke through the clouds on Saturday and lit up Allston’s streets for the Art Tour! We were happy to see flyers in the hands of people weaving in and out of all the Art Tour venues. An enormous “Thank you!” to all the artists and locations for participating in the tour, and round-of-applause for “Allston Main Streets” for all the hard-work and diligence put into the preparation and execution – ArtVenue could not have been happier being a part of such a great event!

We are pleased to announce a new show currently running at Eat at Jumbo’s in Ball Square, Somerville. The show features the work of Christopher Jones, a local Boston artist.
Christopher Jones’ artwork is vibrant, expressive and thoughtfully detailed. As a collective whole, his work conveys freedom of movement, spontaneity and a hectic playfulness. Using mediums like acrylic paint and marker, his emotions seem to translate onto paper, creating unique and visually explosive pieces.
